little spark...
in the Darkness

coax
kindle
wonder at this frailty

Dark pervades
permeates

smoulder...
tend this warmth

winds begin howling
rains fall in growing
torrents

nurture the spark
feeling it warm you
in turn

Darkness oppressive
winds tearing at this little light
world sodden even kindling soaked
rains threaten to wash away
everything

pointless
this battle raging

easier to surrender
just huddle against raging elements
withdraw into yourself
into Darkness

little voice inside
that's the path to nowhere
to nothingness
oblivion

losing this spark
this warmth
like dying

cry out

you can't steal it
can't murder it
it's mine

...it's me

suddenly burst into
flame

rise from your own ashes
burning away doubts and fears
and Darkness

only in your own light seeing
desolate landscape
other scattered sparks

inspired to

I think I was supposed to read this.  Like right now. I saw this before I saw your note telling me you posted it, and my music is on shuffle right now. I started reading it as "Be Somebody" by Thousand Foot Krutch started playing, so I finished the poem to hear them singing the line "your thoughts burn through me like a fire".  Strange coincidence!

Anyway.  As usual, I really liked this one.  Somehow you managed to put into metaphor and words the way it feels when everyone and everything around you is beating you down, trying to get you to give up, and I've never read it better when that moment of rage, of determination, of spite all rolls into one and you decide you're not giving up.  This is perfect, and I LOVED that last part about 'only in your own light seeing/desolate landscape/other scattered sparks/inspired to/Ignite'.

The only suggestion I have? Maybe you'd want to change the title of the poem to 'Ignite'.
